The Department of Earth Sciences (DCT) has a long tradition of scientific research in the areas of Geology and Geological Engineering. The Main Research Center is GeoBioTec  (headquartered in Aveiro, at FCT NOVA). The scientific journal run by DCT is Ciências da Terra – Earth Sciences Journal.
