Áreas Científicas

Domain of specialization:
Structural Geology, Tectonics

Areas of scientific activity:
Structural Geology, Tectonics, Basin analysis. Tectonic evolution of the West Iberian Margin during the Alpine cycle namely: 1) extensional tectonics related to the first stages (Mesozoic) of the North Atlantic opening; 2) salt tectonics in the Lusitanian Basin; 3) emplacement of Late Mesozoic igneous bodies and 4) tectonic inversion related to the Africa–Eurasia collision during Cenozoic.

Present research interests:
Structural geology, Basin analysis. Tectonic evolution of the West Iberian Margin during the Alpine cycle namely: 1) extensional tectonics related to the first stages (Mesozoic) of the North Atlantic opening; 2) salt tectonics in the Lusitanian Basin; 3) emplacement of Late Mesozoic igneous bodies and 4) tectonic inversion related to the Africa–Eurasia collision during Cainozoic. Also is integrated in a multidisciplinary research team, mainly with specialists of Jurassic and Cretaceous stratigraphy and paleontologists of marine and continental fossil groups to study and compare the paleogeographic evolution of the several margin basins of Iberia (Portugal and Spain).
In association with other researchers of the FCT/UNL (2007) formed a team to develop activities of R&D in the area of 3D cartography.

Other skills/activities:
Geological heritage; Geological mapping; Teaching, training and popularization of Geology.
